Time Wise on CNN: Words can lead to violence. Duh.

11:00 am - 03/28/2010
Yes, minorities are affected by the health care reform and yes, the tea party rhetoric is geared towards racist mentality.

I don't know if Don Lemon has anything to do with it, but he has had Tim Wise on, at least, two other times. I'm still always surprised when I see him though. I feel the same way about Roland Martin, LOL.

This is the same CNN that now has Erickson from Red State and the 'goat fucking child molestor' comment?
jetessence 28th-Mar-2010 06:11 pm (UTC)
I saw him speaking on Reliable Sources (*eye roll*) this morning. Of course, Howard Kurtz lobbed some soft-ball questions at Erickson regarding his inflammatory statements.

Words can lead to violence.

I wish they led to violence last night. I would've paid to see my douchebag neighbor and his drunk friends getting the shit kicked out of them by the people they were yelling at from the balcony at 3am in the morning.

That is some fine reporting there.

I love Tim Wise.

I met Tim Wise once. My friend called him a cracker ass cracka and he Wise was cool about it. I like Tim Wise.

The host is one dude on CNN I like. I watched him some a few months ago (sometime before last thanksgiving) and he was holding a pretty sophisticated for cable news discussion about racism and violence in intercity schools. Also I want to lick Tim Wise.

I really liked this, like really. I love that host.

  • Hey, Prof. Marc Lamont Hill -- does he still contribute to FoxNews, or was he really, permanently, fired?

  • This segment was great. I really didnt expect the points about

    1. "public [anything], i.e., public school, transport, etc., being a long-standing coded reference to "inclusive/access by historically marginalized groups"; and
    2. poor white people who refuse to accept how much they have in common with poor minorities than with the white ruling classes who dont give two shits about them

to make it past the filter of CNN, as its discourse on race relations has always had that "post-racial" angle, so that was refreshing.

My only objection the fleeting injection of "BOTH SIDES DO IT, TOO!" where it doesnt even make sense. It *should* be a given that white privilege is a question of undue privilege based on social constructs of Eurocentricity being superior--not of Eurocentricity + some insular political affiliation in some country in the Western hemisphere.

The "Tea Party" movement--or at least the bastard appropriation of pre-election '08 tea party groups--is made up of right-leaning "Reagan-crats" as well as reactionaries who affiliate with the GOP. So it strikes me as a moot point when detractors get all "Omg But White Democrats Can Be Racist, Too!". Well, no shit, Sherlock. That's white privilege for ya: the privileging whiteness over everything, INCLUDING petty politics.

The whole "Democrats Are Racist, Too!" meme is especially amusing when these are the same people who dont accept any discussion of white privilege in general, non-partisan terms. If the discourse isnt about racism among white liberals, they WILL defend the construct of Eurocentricity being superior, and the debate as "reverse-racism" and "race-hustling".

Ever notice that?

Anyway, yeah. Nice segment.

Tim Wise has the perfect name because he does have an immense amount of wisdom. I love when he says 'white folks' like he's not one. OT I met Don Lemon in person and he is 10x better looking than he is on television. Annnnd Sarah Palin is a piece of crap.

That was amazing. I love Tim Wise.

Also, Sarah Palin: Sit down and shut up.

I'm squicked out by Tim Wise, because the first time I read about him it was from an Indian guy who was a huge fan of his. Who was also a gigantic misogynist asshole. Should I change my mind, you guys?
bnmc2005 28th-Mar-2010 06:45 pm (UTC)
Yes. I highly suggest looking into his work for yourself.

For all those who are surprised that this played on CNN, I will note that I don't know what time this actually aired. Probably not prime time, I'm guessing, but I'm glad it's out there.
nothingbutgold 28th-Mar-2010 08:55 pm (UTC)
