Proud To Serve | Proud To Serve is a portrait essay of our Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender American Service Members who served their country in silence or were discharged under the current “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” [U.S.] law. On August 25, 2010, Jo Ann began a twenty-eight day road trip around the United States, driving 10,167 miles, 31 states from New York to California and back to photograph and record the stories of LGBT Servicemembers. The funds for the road trip were raised through kickstarter.com. The hope of this on-going project is to put a human face on the statics, to allow the 65,000 gay men and women currently serving in the armed forces, and the more than one million gay veterans a chance not only to be seen but heard- in their own voices.
This portrait essay is now available in an 82 page full-color, self-published limited edition of 100 photo book.
