Civil Union bill passes through Hawaii Senate Committee

The Hawaii State Senate Judiciary Committee passed a civil unions bill on Tuesday. This brings the bill another step closer to Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s desk where he said he will sign it. The bill offers the same benefits and responsibilities to unmarried gay couples that are given to married couples.

Supporters of the bill hope it will pass earlier in the season before any distractions or delays impede its progress.

The bill passed 3-2, according to kitv.com. It will now advance to the Senate before moving to the House.
