Bomb goes off in Oslo12:05 pm - 07/22/2011
Norwegian police are now confirming that a bomb caused an explosion at the government headquarters in Oslo Friday, local news agency NTB reported.
The blast shattered several buildings in the Norwegian capital, including the prime minister's office.
Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was not injured. A senior adviser said Stoltenberg was not in the building but was instead working at home.
At least one person was killed in the afternoon blast, which shattered windows and covered the streets in paper and debris. Early reports say eight others were injured.
Most of the windows in the 20-floor high-rise building were blown out. The bottom floor appeared to be gutted.
Nearby buildings were also damaged and evacuated. Some of the buildings housed Norway's leading newspapers and NTB. The website of the NRK network showed images of a blackened car lying on its side amid the debris.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.
The bombing was unusual for Norway, which has rarely been a target for terror groups.
UPDATE: They're evacuating a large news station and the central station. Norwegian members, I hope you are all okay.
Update 12:15PM EST, via a Norwegian friend (alletiders): "Reports of a gunman dressed as a policeman shooting people at the camp for young people in the political party of the prime minster."

Update 12:29PM EST, again via alletiders, that kids are swimming away from the island, saying people are killed -- but there are no confirmed deaths, and noone is linking shootings to the bombings, yet. The ambulance can't reach the scene as there's still shooting going on.
