Fox Station in Orlando calls Neo-Nazis a "civil rights group"

Yes, really:

Civil rights group patrolling Sanford

Florida members of the Detroit-based National Socialist Movement tells FOX35 they are patrolling the streets of Sanford.

The white rights organization says several Sanford citizens have called on them fearing their safety.

The group's commander talked with FOX35 Saturday about their presence in the now racially divided Florida town where Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman.

It's nice to know that supporters of a genocidal, racist fuckwit like Hitler are just a bunch of harmless civil rights activists. Stay classy, Fox.

UPDATE: The original headline got a lot of notice, being mentioned at blogs like Firedoglake and Little Green Footballs, and was even re-tweeted by Charles M. Blow of the NYT. Fox Orlando's reaction? Changing the headline.

The new article: White rights group patrolling Sanford

Hey, Fox? It's okay to call them Nazis. That's what they call themselves.

Yup, editors make the headlines for the articles. I worked at a newspaper for a summer in high school. This was probably because it was a small town paper, but I remember the reporters there being allowed to give input on what the headline before publishing.

But that was print not television journalism so I don't know wtf they do.
